Beautiful Saturday, but a storms a comin'!

Well, life on the farm is kinda laid back. . .no wait, those are the words to a song!  Well, anyway, it's true.  Today I cleaned house a little, watched a movie or two and went out to lunch with the girls.  I should have been at a pig picking in SC with my family, but as you can see, I'm home.  Robert's boss was sympathetic, but he said that there is a "chance" of a storm tonight.  Well, the chance is now more like a certainty, so I guess it all worked out for the best.  It better rain and pour tonight, I'll tell you that right now!!  Oh, and there was a huge semi load of watermelon harvesting equipment that showed up this morning that wouldn't have been received if Robert was gone and that would have been         bad. . .real bad.  So, I am still upset, but once again I have learned that life in the farming industry can be totally unpredictable. . .especially when there are plants in the ground.

This evening the weather is perfect. . .a pretty good breeze is blowing and the temp right now is 86*!   We ordered pizza tonight and went outside to play with the kittens (they are 6 weeks old now) and Pepper.  Betsy was riding the 4-wheeler while Katie was online talking to. . . . . . matt.  The saga continues. . . . a little.  They still talk, but she is officially back with Mike. (who is mad at her right now)  Who knows.  Robert and I were laying (yes, I said laying) out in the front yard in the grass looking up into the oak trees at the spanish moss blowing in the breeze, while Pepper, Dizzy Kitty and Bootsie laid near us.  I lasted about 15 minutes before a big black and red spider crawled on my arm.  I got up quick!

Well, Katie is baking chocolate chip cookies and they are coming out of the oven and I can't wait another minute!  Wish I could share!

Busy week

You all must be ready to write me off!  I haven't made and entry since Tuesday and here it is Friday already.  Well, I really do have a good excuse!  This was my last week of doing massages and they booked me up pretty good.  Also I was training at my new job every day this week.  Since I am working at the church I just stayed there Wednesday for supper and choir practice instead of coming home (convenient, yes, but it makes for a long day) and then yesterday I worked till 4:45, then went and did 2 (1 hour-long) massages and raced back to the church for a VBS (vacation Bible school) clinic that lasted until 9:00.  Another long day!  Today is my day off.

I was planning to go to South Carolina today to surprise my dad as he is now officially retired (as of 11:00 pm last night!) and having a party today, but unfortunately it looks as though that is not going to happen.  We have been planning it for a while and then we were wopped with 2 nights of strong thunderstorms (one with hail) earlier this week. Robert has 500 acres of tomatoes in the ground.  Also his company lost an entire crew (about 40 migrants who quit).  Therefore, since 2 other farmers in his company are picking tomatoes right now (about an hour south of us) Robert had to send all of his workers down there to help with harvest leaving him with no help.  So, there is little chance of him going.  The other big problem is that we lease our car and it is already 3,200 miles over the limit.  We don't turn it in until July which means that even without the 1,200 mile round trip to SC we are going to owe a lot. (they charge us 20 cents per mile, so every 1,000 miles is $200).  I could rent a car, but then I'd have to do most of the driving (Katie is not so good on interstate) and I get anxiety attacks on interstate that made me dizzy and light-headed. Not to mention the price of gas and the cost of renting a car for 4 days with unlimited mileage. I even checked last minute deals on airfare online, and there weren't any deals!  So, I am waiting to see if Robert can get the ok to leave from his boss.  It is a long shot and would mean that we would leave here around 3:00 today, arrive there around midnight at best, then he would have to be back between noon and 3:00 on Sunday.  This whole thing is stressing me out to the max!  I feel like a crumb because I told my mom and brother we were coming and they have been planning and now I've disappointed them. So, what can I do.

I am going now so I can get some stuff done around here.

It's been a great day, no bull!

What a fun evening we had working the cows.  Three times a year we cut out of the herd those cattle that we are going to sell at the market as well as the young male calves that need to be cut.  Today we only cut one calf as the other 2 young ones were heifers.  We are taking one mean and nasty bull to the market and a good sized steer as well as three young steers.  They should bring a few thousand dollars as beef prices are way up right now.  I had fun staying up in the cat walk taking pictures.  The mean and nasty bull tried to jump the 7 foot wall of the pen and that was pretty scary because last time he made it over the top!  He has gotten quite a bit bigger and heavier and wasn't successful this time, thank God!  It was a little hairy for a minute or two and when Robert yelled at all the girls to "get your asses in the truck! right now!!"  We didn't need to be told twice. . .we all ran for the truck and practically clawed our way inside!  There were 5 of us running for our lives trying to scramble into the cab of the pick up, but we did it in record time!  After the danger was over we all went out to dinner at our favorite oyster bar.  There were 7 of us and we put away 8 dozen raw oysters and 50 buffalo wings!  Then of course we hit the Krispy Kreme drive thru for dessert. The "hot donut" light was on and there's no way to resist hot glazed donuts!  We still have 3 left for breakfast!

Well it is after midnight already and I have to be at the office at 9:00 am.  It will be my second day of training.  My official start date is Monday the 2nd, but I will be working there all week trying to learn the ropes.  You all have a great night!

Look at Rosie's coffee. . . what's missing?  Cream!  I am drinking black coffee this morning.  I don't like black coffee.  I like extra creamy coffee.  Not a good way to start the week.

I promised you all that I would update you on my 2 weeks of being MIA.  It really was an eventful 2 weeks, so I'm going to give you a quick outline:

1.  I gave my notice at work.

2.  I was offered a job working part time in the office at church.

3.  I accepted the job at church.  I start May 2nd.

4.  We lost all 5 kitty's. . . for 1 week.  We found them this past Friday.  Mama cat moved them.

5.  Katie and Matt are over.  He broke it off with her.

6.  Katie and Mike are back on.  He is treating her very well and has been perfect so far.  The saga continues. . .

7.  Wes is moving out as soon as school is out in 3 weeks.  He plans to go to community college over the summer in B'town.

That about wraps it up!  I am really excited about my job.  I will be working 12:30 to 5:00 Monday through Thursday and have every Friday off.  I will be the afternoon receptionist at the front desk.  My other duties will be in the creative field.  I will be creating large posters for every upcoming activity and social event (all done by computer and printed on a bulletin board sized printer) also I will be incharge of producing the Sunday bulletin and weekly church newsletter (we have over 3000 members).  So, I will be very busy, but putting my creative side to use and working with many of my church friends I am sure that I'll be happy as a clam. We have a very large staff and I know them all, and believe it or not I haven't found 1 that I don't like.

Everything is going okay on the homefront.  Robert is really busy at the farm.  He has lost some employees recently and trying to do everything with a skeleton crew is driving him nuts.  Two of his fellow growers in his company are starting to pick (tomatoes) this week, so he is going to have to send just about all of his people down to help with the harvest.  That will pretty much leave him to single handedly take care of his 500 acres of tomatoes.  Let's just say he is a little stressed out.  We had a bad storm the night before last and it made a mess on the farm, so he didn't have any time off this weekend.  Well, I am slacking off on my barnyard manager duties this morning.  I am sure the animals will let me know when I get out there how they feel about waiting till after 9:00 to eat!  Hope you all have a good one!

It is soooo good to be back!  It is amazing how "lost" I was without my journal!   I think the kids and I will be sure to unplug "every" cord during all future storms from now on.

I heard thunder rumbling on April 7th in the early evening and I hollared for Betsy to run in and unplug the computer.  Well, she     did. . . almost!  She missed the phone jack.  Well, a surge of lightning came right in through the phone jack and fried the modem.  I have been sick about it.  But, no harm done, I'm back.  I have to run and pick Betsy up from school, so I have to go, but I will be back with an update on all the happenings in my life over the last 2 weeks.  Catch ya later!

I'm Not Dead!

Just a quick note from my office to let you all know that I am not dead, sick, missing or too lazy to update.  My modem was struck by lightning about 2 weeks ago and I am now in the process of waiting for my CPU to be returned to me.  So, bear with me!  You all have been very busy while I've been gone!  I had 263 alerts waiting for me when I signed on today!

Hope to be back up soon!

And then there were . . . none.

A massacre happened in the barn last night.  Our three remaining chickens are. . . no more.  They decided to visit our mama Bassett Hound, Abbie. . .well that was their last mistake.  Abbie killed them, unlike Elvis, our daddy Bassett, who ate them whole!  So their twisted chicken carcasses are lying all around Abbie's pen.  They were able to fly up and over the 6 foot chain link fence into the dog pens.  They had the entire barn!  So why did they want to go into the dog pens!  Well, we are now officially out of the chicken business.  And to tell you the truth, I'm sort of glad.  I was tired of walking down there finding one or two missing or dead.

I am in the mood for sewing today and as my new Bible Study (The Frazzeled Female) begins tomorrow, I may make myself a new tote bag to carry my Bible and study book in.  I have some cute fabric that I haven't used yet and so I think I will do that today.

It is really breezy, well windy actually, here today.  I plan on taking Pepper out for another walk today and the breeze will feel great.  I might even sit out by the pool and catch a few rays!  I started wearing my capri's last week and the little bit of skinny white legs sticking out at the bottom isn't very attractive!  Hey, that's the ONLY part of my legs that's skinny, I can tell you that right now!  It's gonna take more than a little walk every day to get the rest of my legs into shorts! or, *swallow hard* a bathing suit!  YIKES!

Well y'all, I am getting up out of this chair and on to more productive things!  You all have a wonderful day!

Just a few pictures, no big deal!

Nothing special?

I was thinking about what to put in my subject line today.  Nothing special.  That's what I came up with, until I began thinking about that. It is such a beautiful day today; that's special.  I don't have a headache or feel sick; that's special.  Robert is having a good day at work today (or a change); that's special! We have money in our bank account; that's really special!   SO, I added the question mark, mostly for my own benefit.  I don't ever want to take "normal" for granted.  I don't ever want to overlook the mundane.  There may come a day that I pray for normal and mundane.  God has blessed me with so much.  Saying "nothing special" is like giving Him the cold shoulder, like sticking my tongue out at Him. Have I become that insensitive?  Have I become that person who doesn't see the forest for the trees?  I hope not.

So, instead of saying that nothing special is going on today, let me just say that today is a beautiful, "wonderfully normal" day. My life is great.  And I mean it. . .

Katie makes top 10

Here she is.  Top 10!  Whew. . . I must admit I am getting nervous for her now. The competition is really heating up and it is going to be really close!  I don't doubt that she will make the top 5, but after that it's anyones guess.  So, practice, practice, practice!!  Next week is "Oldies" week. I'll let you all know what she chooses to sing.  I'm beat, so I'm gonna go to bed.  Good night!

A view from my desk chair

Oh what a gorgeous day here in the Sunshine State.  I hate to brag, but according to this mornings news, some of you out there are having it really rough!  Snow, flooding. . .wow

I woke up with a headache this morning and I'm having a really hard time with this stupid time change.  We all overslept this morning.  Katie must not have changed her clock cause she got up at 6:30 and she's usually up at 5:30.  Betsy rolled out at 6:35 after much screaming and hollaring at her!  I forgot to re-set my alarm from yesterday morning.  I change it every Saturday night as we don't have to get up quite so early for church as we do school every day.  It never even crossed my mind to change it back last night. . . oh well.  No body was late, but they might not look as good as they like!  Katie is very picky about how she looks.  Betsy is. . .less so, but still has a standard that she likes to try to attain.  Wes was the only one who got up at his regular time, but give me a break, he doesn't have to get up til 8:30!

The girls will be home from school in a minute or two and I am doing 2 massages today.  Tonight is Katie's Idol competition.  We made some signs for her.  The theme tonight is R&B and Katie can "kick butt" on that!  She's doing an Alicia Keys song (the title escapes me).  I am pretty confident that she will be in the top 3, so tonight is just gonna be fun.  She is wearing one of her new "sexy" tops that we got over the weekend.  I will try not to forget my camera tonight!  I am pretty sure Matt will be coming too, so that will make Katie happy!  She is excited to "show him off" to all her friends.  <Matt, I know you will see this, as I "accidentally" gave you the web address, so make sure you look extra good tonight! ;) >

Well, I am going to run and get my scrubs on.  I am not too excited about working on this beautiful day, but you gotta do what you gotta do!!  bye.

Sunday evening

It's that time again.  Where has my day gone?  I have been so busy today that here it is, after midnight and I am just now sitting down to write my journal entry for today.

Wes is sound asleep on the couch, sore foot on a (now thawed) ice pack.  He has no idea why his heel hurts, but he says it hurts to walk.  I figured I'd treat it as if it were inflammed, so I had him put an ice pack on it.  I've worked on a lot of "plantar fasciitis" (inflammed fascia in the bottom of the foot) in my massage profession and it can be pretty painful.  I don't know if that's it, but I figured it was worth a shot.  He won't die from it either way.

Katie just got off the phone with Matt.  She finished up her school project pretty late and when Matt called she took the phone in her room.  She is probably catching some zzzz's right now.  Betsy has long since gone to bed; and so has Robert.

We went to Wal-Mart shopping after evening church tonight and Robert was a freak!  He made out the grocery list while I was at praise team practice.  He did a good job, but he then took control of the whole "shopping experience" just because he made the stupid list!  I usually insist on going grocery shopping alone, but he is starting a diet tomorrow and I thouht he might want some input into what we bring home this week.  Did you catch those 2 little words . . . SOME IMPUT!! . . .  Not "RUN THE SHOW!"  So anyway, the girls came with us and after special shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair, special "venus" razor cartridges, a CD that I promised Betsy, special high fiber, low calorie bread, sweatpants for Robert's new gym membership, etc. . . .We overspent!  Robert ranted and raved about how the kids are killing him! His words:  "I work my fingers to the bone so we can have a nice life, and the kids just continually suck me dry.  Week after week and we aren't accumulating any extra in savings because these "leeches" are sucking me dry.  What ever happened to sticking to a list?  What ever happened to buying Suave shampoo? " and on and on and on. . . .Can anyone relate?  What am I gonna do with him when the kids are gone and its just the two of us?  Oh my, I'll put that thought on a back burner. . . can't worry about that now!

I am going to bed!!  I am having trouble forming cohesive thoughts. ( I'm having trouble spelling cohesive).   I do have the dictionary right here, but too tired to look it up.  Good night everyone . . . .til tomorrow!

Shopping spree

Today the girls and I spent the entire afternoon at the mall.  We all got a little something.  Katie racked up the most (as usual).  But in her defense, we had to buy her 2 more tops for "Idol" and another Karoke CD for Monday nights competition.  She has to sing an R&B song and didn't like anything that she already had.  She is going to do "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys.  It sounds great!  She also got a new bathing suit (because it was on sale), a pair of Hollister ripped up jeans, 5 pairs of Vicky Secret thongs and a cheap pair of flip flops.  Betsy only got a new top ( I offered in every store! I asked her if she needed any panties while in Vivky's Secret and she said "Why don't you say it a little louder mom, I don't think they heard you in CHINA!  She's really modest. LOL)  Anyway, she wants a few CD's so we will go to Wal-Mart after church tomorrow and get them.  I got a cute black knee length skirt with a flippy bottom, a light aqua sweater set and another dressy sweater in pink and navy to wear to church. (It is freezing year round in my church!) Oh, and a cute pair of high heeled, pointy toed mules.  Amanda went too. She brought her own money to buy herself a couple of do-dads.  We finally headed home about 6:00 and met Farmer Brown at a restaurant for dinner.  Matt is due to arrive any minute, so Katie is all excited.  Amanda and Katie are so funny, they are trying on their new stuff while listening to Conway Twitty.  They LOVE Conway.  Katie wants her first born son to have Conway for a middle name and Matt said that would be fine, hehehe ;)

Well, I am pooped. . . .I have to get out of these clothes.  I would dearly love to put on my old paisly flannel pj's, but Katie would kill me if Matt saw me in those!  They are soooo comfortable, but look soooo bad. . . . . I've painted in them a couple of times, so just imagine how SEXY they are!  They are my favorite "Jammy Day" attire.  Oh, Robert hates them too.  TOO BAD!  Night y'all!

Beautiful 1st date!

And why do I say it was beautiful?  Because I was there!  I thought it was a tad bit odd that Matt wanted us to go on their first date, but as we are all very close, I didn't think too much about it.  Then there in the middle of dinner, he asks us (Robert and I) for permission to date our daughter!  Is this too good to be true or what?  Robert is "Mr. Old Fashioned" and you KNOW he ate this up!  Of course we said we didn't mind.  Then he turned to Katie to OFFICIALLY ask her to be his girlfriend.  It was soooo precious.  Our daughter #3 (Amanda, Katie's best friend) was also with us and she is so precious and sensitive...she put her napkin up to her mouth and was going "oooohhh!!! I'm gonna cry!"  It was all very sweet.  Dinner was wonderful and the conversation was light and happy and funny and....well wonderul too.  Then we all came back to our house.  We stayed up with them for about 45 minutes and Katie gave Matt a foot massage (remember, I am a Massage therapist and I taught her how to do it).  He loved it and asked her to massage his back next.  Well after about 5 minutes of that Robert and I went to bed!  You know the song, "It's getting hot in here"  well, yea....hot....H...O...T.!  so, we had to give them time to "bond".  We have all discussed the importance of "saving yourself for marriage" which is something they are both very serious about, so we aren't too worried, but we left our door open just in case!  And Betsy and Amanda were still up.  Betsy is our little informant, and let me tell ya, she doesn't mind at all!  Before I move on to another subject. . .here is a new picture of Matt and Katie after dinner last night:

Well y'all, it is Saturday after all....cleaning day.  Iam going to get those lazy girls out of bed and get going on the housework.  Matt is busy today, so he won't be coming over till later.  He is running in a Diabete's fund raiser 5 or 10 mile run.  What a guy!

Good Saturday to you all!

More pics from this morning

I just wanted to share with you all some cute animal pictures from this morning .  It is such a beautiful day today and I let everyone run loose for a while.  Chicklet is loving the little stream I make every day by turning on the water at the horses water trough and letting it overflow down the path for about 1/2 hour.  It's free, we have a well.  All the dogs love running through it too!  Even the horses like to stomp their feet in it.  I wish we had a real stream, but this is the best I can do.  I have never shown any pictures of our rabbits, so I threw those in too.  I didn't take a single Bassett Hound picture!  Oh well, youv'e seen them!  And what do you think of the new man in my life?  I'm talking about Pepper!  Isn't he great?  So well behaved!  He follows me everywhere.  Right now he is sleeping by my feet.  He is very clean, and his breath isn't nasty.  I haven't seen a flea on him and he doesn't drool or have any eye goop!  That's important to me!  I hate dog drool, and eye goop....uuugghh!  And, knock on wood.....we think he's housebroken.  At least there haven't been any accidents for a week now.  Keeping our fingers crossed on that one!  Well, I must run so that I can honestly say I didn't spend ALL day on the computer!  Bye!

Some funny pics

I took these pictures yesterday and thought you would get a kick out of them.  The first 3 are of my son Wes after a LONG hard day on the farm.  We haven't had much rain and the fields are very dry and dusty.  He was in a closed cab tractor, but the air wasn't working so he had to open the windows as it was about 85* yesterday!  He was running the disk ( the thing that tills the ground getting it ready for summer planting)  He wasn't too happy with his dad for giving him that dirty job without an airconditioned tractor.  He told me that his "boogers" were gonna be black for a week with all the dust he breathed in!  That's my boy!

The last 2 pictures are of our "lost and found" dog.  Living in a large farming community we have lots of problems with hogs.  So, the local farmers invite their "hog hunting buddies" to come in a hunt them.  Well, for those of you not familiar with hog hunting, they don't use guns to hunt them.  They use "hog dogs".  If you let them loose they will track and grab the hogs and then you (not me!) come in and tie the hog up (youv'e heard of "hog-tying"), haul it off and then do whatever with it.  Well, sometimes the dogs get so deep in the woods that they get lost and then wind up dirty and hungry at Robert's farm a day or two later.  Robert (being the kind hearted soul that he is) brings them home and feeds them until he can find out who they belong to.  Well, in this picture you can see that "Pepper" (Betsy named him) is making himself right at home here. Robert has been unsuccessful at finding his owner, but I don't think Pepper minds too much.  He wasn't shy about coming right on into the house and laying down on the kitchen floor.  So now, whenever we open the back door, he just waltzes right it and finds a place to curl up!  He has been here for over a week now and has become quite the house dog!  Robert says that he's probably ruined for hog hunting now. LOL.  That's ok, we love him and since we already have 5 other dogs (all very jealous that he gets to come inside!) what's one more.  He is actually a pure bred Catahoula Curr (sp?)  We have a female Catahoula that is about 1 year old. It isn't a registered breed, but around here they fetch about $75 a piece for puppies since this is a prime hog hunting area. So, who knows.  He may be a part of our family now. (Mom, it's ok.  I know you are probably groaning about now, but it's really ok) My mom thinks we have too many animals.  We do.  Well speaking of animals, we haven't lost a single chicken since letting them run loose.  And the pig is in "hog heaven".  By the way, don't worry about Chicklet.  Pepper has can see her from a distance all day long,  he couldn't get to her if he wanted to, but he hasn't shown any intrest in her at all.  Well, I am going to run now.  Now that the saga of the "love triangle" has died down I can get back to writing about "normal" stuff that goes on around here.  Bye y'all!

Joy Comes in the Morning!

                                    It's April!

My "day of tears" is over and all for nought.  I should have trusted my daughter more, I should have trusted my God more.  Shame on me.  Katie sat down yesterday evening with pen in hand to write her 3 lists like I suggested.  Even she was surprised at the outcome.  Not disappointed, but surprised  As promised I have asked Katie for permission to include her lists for you all to read this morning.  And here they are:

Master list:   She titled "What I really want"

-Someone I can talk to easily- Makes me feel comfortable - Understands me - helps me - loves me unconditionally - treats me like a "girlfriend" - supports me - wants my dreams to come true - respects my beliefs - laughs with me - thinks I'm beautiful - be content doing nothing but sitting around with me - loves to get dressed up and go out one night, but the next, stay home in PJ's watching movies :) - loves to "pig-out" but still takes care of his body - good dresser - clean hands - cute feet - loving eyes - soft touch - not afraid to be a "dork" - loves music - loves to sing - not afraid of  hard work - spontainious - competative - goal oriented - family oriented - thinks about the future - confident - sometimes shy - easy to shock - kind hearted - open minded - easy to excite - fun - marriage material - would make a good dad - smart - honest - faithful - trusts me - loves my family - doesn't judge me by my past (mom here, what past?) - passionate - protective - crazy about me - ON FIRE FOR GOD - ticklish :)  ( These are all her words, nothing added my mom!)

Then she compared both Mike and Matt to her Master list and this is what she came up with:

Mike's List:

Pros - loving - funny - laughs a lot - outgoing - goal oriented - loves me - cute - good heart - protective - confident - would be a good dad

Con's - spoiled - selfish - jealous - controlling - un-accepting - rude - no tact - stubborn - "my way or the highway" - superiour - anal - immature - know-it-all - judgemental - negative - unwilling - weak in his faith - self important - self-absorbed - ugly feet :) - brutally honest - belligerant - un-excitable - high strung - overly sensitive - picky - hates the movies - over reacts - bad temper

Matt's list:

Pros's  All the things in my "What I really want" list!

Con's  - Talks himself down sometimes - sometimes acts nervous (mom here, oh, I really hate those 2 things! lol )

I guess I'ts needless to say who she chose.  She called Mike to tell him that she doesn't want to get back together with him and she said that after she explained herself, he was okay with it. Then she called Matt. . . . . . . *smile*. . . . . . . . and they are going on their first official date tonight.  All's well that ends well.  And I am so glad that I had her write down those lists, it really helped her to see some things, when they were written down in an organized way, that I think she was avoiding.  So, here is a picture of the cute couple and I am going to go and collapse for a few days after this.  Thanks to all of you for your sweet, supportive comments. Bye!
